Dr Lyndal Harborne

Qualifications, Experiences & Achievements

I completed a Bachelor of Medicine (BMed) at the University of Newcastle, Australia in 1994. Thereafter, I completed training and obtained Fellowships with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRANZCGP, 1999), and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FRANZCOG, 2008). I also successfully completed certifications in the Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DRANZCOG), Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST), Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO- Provider and Instructor course), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), Diploma of Faculty of Family Planning (DFFP), and MRCOG Part 1.

In 1999 I moved to Glasgow, Scotland to pursue further training and became a Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow to complete a Medical Doctorate entitled “The Role of Insulin Sensitising Agents in PCOS” in 2005. This research was published in reputable journals including The Lancet, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (JCEM), British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (BJOG), and others. The work was presented orally and via poster at international conferences including American Society Reproductive Medicine (ASRM 2002), European Society Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE, 2002), British Endocrine Societies meeting (2003), Combined NSW/QLD Annual Scientific Meeting (2003), and the 5th Annual Scientific Meeting of RANZCOG (2003). I also completed an audit of thyroid disease in pregnancy which was also published in the BJOG.

On returning to Australia in 2003 I completed my training at John Hunter Hospital (JHH) in 2008 and developed a keen interest in pelvic reconstructive surgery, which continues to this present day. From an obstetric point of view I enjoy supporting couples with high and low risk pregnancy holistically to ensure the family unit is not only physically but also emotionally cared for. I commenced private practice in 1999 delivering and operating at both Newcastle Private Hospital, John Hunter Hospital and previously at Belmont District Hospital.

Personally, I have had two of my own children, Anton and Ella, who are now teenagers/young adults. With the support of my husband, David, and my wonderful staff they are without a doubt my best accomplishment.
